I am an artist based in Oakland, California, with a BFA from University of California, Berkeley. My work imagines lush plant-filled environments via drawing, painting, textiles, ceramics and printmaking. I enjoy working with color, shape and texture to create images that visually tantalizing and dreamlike. I create environments that are soothing, stimulating, and peaceful. I want plants to fill the world.
My life-long fascination with mark-making has led me to create large-scale mixed media works that are rooted in introspection and intuition. Surreal, slow-moving worlds, my works are made up of soft round shapes, with fleshy life-sized figures often filling most of the frame, encouraging the viewer to imagine themselves in their stead. I build tones with layers of airbrushed watercolor and soft pastel, and add textures with mark makers like crayon and oil pastel. My work calls out from my drive to play and connect with my natural environment, a means to dream of an existence that makes sense to my spirit. Through the dreamy alternative realities I create, I imagine lush worlds free from harm, imperialist war, ecological destruction. I want to inspire myself and others to value our collective sense of wonder and its powerful ability for change.
